Mediation is a process that encourages people who are in conflict to explore options together to reach a mutually acceptable agreement without involving the adversarial legal system.
In many cases mediation can provide a more effective solution than legal action and/or the courts. Mediation provides the following benefits:
- enhances and preserves positive relations between people; and
- avoids the costly and adversarial legal process.
The Community Mediation Service
The Community Mediation Service provides assistance to people living in Adelaide Metropolitan regions and some rural regions.
Our services are free, confidential and unbiased. Assistance is provided in neighbourhood and other disputes.
The Community Mediation Service can assist by:
- providing information about positive and constructive alternatives to the legal system
- discussing the options available to all parties in the dispute
- Negotiating with both parties to discuss options to a resolution that will suit everyone
- encouraging people to explore options together to reach a mutually acceptable agreement
- referring to other agencies where appropriate
The Community Mediation Program provides this free service in any of regionally based Offices.
All cases are considered and referrals made where necessary. An interpreter can also be arranged.
- Mediation is a voluntary process. People with a willingness to explore positive options can work together to resolve problems
